El Mercurio de Valparaíso Newspaper Information

El Mercurio de Valparaíso is the oldest circulating newspaper in Chile and in the Spanish language under the same name (El Peruano has changed its name several times throughout its history). It was founded in 1827. It is based in Valparaíso.

The newspaper has an ancestor to the newspaper The Friend of the country , founded in 1872 and was acquired in 1960 by Antonio Puga Rodriguez, who in February 1961 renamed it La Prensa. The latter remained in print until mid-1970 when the newspaper was founded Atacama.
