Its name means "morning" in the Turkish language originating from Arabic. Sabah identifies its policy as defense of democracy, free market and human rights. The original "Sabah" newspaper was founded and edited at the beginning of the Second Constitutional Era in 1908 by Professor Diran Kelekian, academic teacher of many Young Turkish leaders, who was a supporter of the revolution of 1908 but was himself deported in April 1915 by the Young Turkish government because of his ethnic background and later killed in Central Anatolia. The paper subsequently was taken over by the Young Turks and played an important role in the early years of the Republic.
